Nintendo and Illumination released The Super Mario Galaxy Movie a week ago, and it’s already a big success. During its first five-days it generated $372 million at the worldwide box office. It slightly trailed the first movie, but not by much. Now, there are reports of other movies being pitched in the Mario cinematic universe.
According to insider, Shpeshal Nick, the success of the Mario movies is having an impact within Nintendo. Nick says there is a lot of “stuff” in the works from what he heard. One thing he has heard is that they are pitching a Luigi’s Mansion movie internally.
Charlie Day, the voice behind Luigi in the Mario movies, has publicly voiced that he’d love to do a Luigi’s Mansion movie. Nintendo hasn’t said anything themselves yet, but it would be an obvious great decision to do a side movie series featuring Mario’s brother.
Illumination and Nintendo are definitely planning other movies in the Mario universe because a recent copyright with Universal suggests a Donkey Kong movie is in the works.
Would you enjoy a Luigi’s Mansion movie?
