The Super Mario Galaxy Movie had a successful first weekend at the worldwide box office. The movie has officially opened with $372.5 Million, which is slightly lower than what the first movie accomplished in 2023.
The sequel opened to an estimated $190.1 million domestically over the five-day release period. The three-day weekend gross reached $130.9 million, and it received an estimated $182.4 million from 80 markets.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie becomes the third biggest opening ever for an animated film, behind the first film. The film also accomplished this year’s biggest three-day opening worldwide so far, which was held by Project Hail Mary.
It’s the third-highest-grossing weekend for a video game adaptation behind A Minecraft Movie and the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
When the movie was released on April 1st, it received harsh reviews from critics, averaging around a 45% rating. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also recorded the biggest opening-day on a Wednesday in April, reaching $34M.
