The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has released in theaters worldwide this week, and it’s already off to a great start at the Box Office. When it released on Wednesday, April 1, it had the best opening on an April Wednesday with $34M earned.
With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie expected to reach $370 Million at the worldwide box office, it would make it the third biggest opening for any animated movie. However, it is tracking behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which had a $377 Million opening weekend.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features an all-star cast, featuring Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Charlie Day, Brie Larson, Donald Glover, Glen Powell, and a whole lot more. Star Fox made his surprise appearance in the movie, who was voiced by Glen Powell, a huge fan of the character and games.
Could A Donkey Kong Movie Be Coming?
In July 2025, Nintendo and Universal Studios filed a joint copyright for a Donkey Kong movie. The project didn’t have a title at the time of filing. It would make great sense for Nintendo to start doing spinoffs in the Mario universe, and what better way to do it than with Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.
