Today Microsoft announced the new Xbox One Media Remote, giving you a familiar since of what you would want from a TV Remote! This remote has a lot of intriguing features which I shall outline below. The Media Remote will be available in all Xbox One regions starting in early March retailing for $24.99 ERP (in the US).
The Xbox One Media Remote will offer the following functionality:
– Control video playback for Blu-ray movies and streaming video on Xbox One.
– Dedicated Back and OneGuide buttons. Xbox OneGuide offers instant access to your favourite Live TV, Video on Demand, TV Shows, Movies, Upload Clips, Twitch Live Streams, OneDrive content and much more!
– Control your TV/Receiver power and volume through Kinect, which uses IR blasting to send signals to your TV and/or receiver. This means you can use the remote via Kinect to turn on/off your TV and Set-Top Box and control the volume of those, Volume Up/Down and Mute/Unmute.
– Motion-activated backlit buttons illuminate, allowing it to be used in the darkest of rooms while playing games, watching TV shows, movies and more.
Personally I’m very excited for this, especially the IR features! What do you think? Let us know! :)
