Like most major conglomerates, there is a drive to delve into gaming one way or another. For Amazon, the firm has worked countless times to make things stick. But its string of layoffs has impacted the entire operation. In one instance, its Montreal team was sold off to Ubisoft alongside new IP ‘March of Giants’.

Additionally, there were also games impacted as well. The ongoing MMO New World: Aeterum was met with a short ending last year. It was revealed that development is to cease of new content for the title. That is not all as another major project was also canned as well. Reports from Rock Paper Shotgun reveals that a Lord of the Rings MMO faced a gravely fate also.

Now in a new decision from Amazon as per an email sent to users, Luna is now restructuring how the subscription operates. According to one user on Reddit, the cloud streaming service is to effective immediately shutter the option to purchase games as well as wall third-part subscriptions from Luna moving forward.

“Amazon Luna will no longer offer game stores, individual game purchases or third-party subscriptions. You’ll still be able to play any games you’ve already purchased and access your third-party subscription benefits (as long as that subscription remains active) until June 10, 2026. After that date, these games will no longer be available on Luna,” the email reads.

“What’s staying and getting even better? We’re doubling down on a broad range of gaming experiences, including strong third-party titles, delivered in ways that make great games more accessible, as well as new and unique gaming experiences like GameNight. […] At Amazon, we’re always looking for ways to better serve our players. Your feedback has been clear: you want easy access to great games, more social experiences, and a steady flow of new content from developers you know and love.

“As our library continues to grow, more of that content is available to Prime members – and that’s where we’re focusing our future.” The email also promises: “A thank-you for being part of Amazon Luna! As a thank-you for your support, we’d like to offer you a free Luna Premium subscription, at no charge. You will receive a separate email on or after June 10, 2026 with details on how to claim your complimentary offer.”

What are your thoughts on this recent decision by Amazon?
